Hey now! The calendar reads October 1st and that can only mean one thing — the start of Big 12 play for the Mountaineers of West of Virginia.
With Baylor the only other undefeated team in the Big 12, today’s matchup is as big as they come at this early point of the season for 3-0 WVU. It’s not going to be easy. Normally, you’d like WVU at home against an evenly matched opponent, but Kansas State always finds a way to force the Mountaineers to play on their heels. In fact, the Wildcats have never lost to WVU home or away since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12. And why? Because Kansas State doesn’t makes mistakes.
Coached by Methuselah’s brother Bill Snyder, fundamental play has been the keystone to their success through the years. And that’s the takeaway for today’s game. It’s not about individual performances. West Virginia needs to play as unit in all 3 facets of the game today and minimize their missteps. If they can do that I think today is the day the Mountaineers finally get to put their muskets and shoot this monkey off their back.
The Wildcats won’t be intimated in Morgantown, but today begins a new chapter in this Big 12 collision.
